What is the real cost to heat a pool - Commercial

Below is our costing model to heat a series of commercial pools. We have modelled this on middle of north island so you can scale this accordingly.

For this pool we are recommending an equivalent unit to either the  a AHP-95 or AHP- 120

OUTDOOR POOL 66sqm

POOL DESIGN

  •           Pool surface area (m2)     =    66.0
  •           Pool volume       (m3)     =    73.0
  •           Bottom colour : Light
  •           Pool in very windy location
  •           Pool not shaded
  •           No pool cover used
  •           Filter back-flush to waste, % of pool volume /day = 1.00

Minimum set temperature     =   28.0°C

  •           Heater capacity = load requirement
  •           Heat pump COP  =   4.0
  •           Heat pump test conditions
  •           Air temperature   =  17.0 øC
  •           Water temperature =  25.0 øC
  •
  •         Variation of COP with temperature = 0.0500 /øC
  •           Heat pump run time, 20Hrs per Day
  •          Yearly Heat pump operating period

Season:     Sep Oct Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr

FUEL COSTS General electric tariff (cents/kWh) =   20.0

HEAT PUMP CAPACITY AND OPERATING COST WITHOUT COVER

Heat pump capacity required kW Heat pump electricity use kWhr/day Heat pump operating cost
January 64.5 408 2529
February 56.1 350 1960
March 60.1 379.5 2252
April 64 428.9 2573
May 0 0 0
June 0 0 0
July 0 0 0
August 0 0 0
September 98.2 689 4134
October 79.3 534.7 3315
November 70.8 460.1 2761
December 64.8 410.9 2547

Estimated Yearly Usage & Cost  110862 kWhr         $ 22172

Note: We would generally allow a 20% Derating of the Heat pump size due to unknown site factors. This would increase the size of the heat pump to 118 KW output to enable September swimming.

HEAT PUMP CAPACITY AND OPERATING COST WITH THERMAL COVER WHEN CLOSED

Heat pump capacity required kW Heat pump electricity use kWhr/day Heat pump operating cost
January 25.4 154.6 958
February 21 127 712
March 25.4 155.4 963
April 29.8 193.6 1162
May 0 0 0
June 0 0 0
July 0 0 0
August 0 0 0
September 47.9 325.8 1955
October 35.1 229 1420
November 29.3 183.6 1102
December 25.7 158.3

982

Estimated Yearly Usage & Cost  46268 kWhr         $  9254

Note Sept, As per above generally allow a 20% Derating of the Heat pump size due to unknown site factors. This would increase the size of the heat pump to 58 KW output to enable September swimming.

By Installing a Thermal Cover system whilst the pool is closed you are reducing the heat pump size & capital cost required plus and saving approximately $12,918.00 Per annum in running cost.
